Did you know that Santa Barbara’s unified red tile roof, Spanish architecture was the result of rebuilding after two devastating earthquakes?

Santa Barbara is in a high seismic zone and in 1812 and 1925 these natural disasters caused extensive damage to the city and its buildings. This only lead to a great period of rebuilding with incredible Spanish-style architecture. The buildings created during this period completely altered the character of the city and are now admired by many as an iconic part of the city's landscape.

Today, visitors can explore some of the original structures from centuries ago, such as churches and castles, or wander through vibrant plazas surrounded by colorful facades.
